FRANKLIN LAKES, NJ - An early morning three alarm fire tore through a Franklin Lakes home on August 4th.

At shortly after 2:30 a.m., the Franklin Lakes Fire Department was dispatched to 231 Seminole Lane for a report of a fire. On arrival units found a large one and one and a half story dwelling with heavy fire blowing out of an attached garage and flames rapidly extending to the home. Additional alarms were quickly transmitted knowing that water supply is always an issue in that part of Franklin Lakes due to the lack of hydrants. Handlines using tank water and a supply from the Franklin Lakes tanker was used as a 5” supply line was dropped 6700 feet to the nearest hydrant. That length required an engine company to position midway as a relay pumper.

Wyckoff Tower Ladder 241 was positioned in the driveway and was put into service once the water supply was established. The fire took over two hours to bring under control with the garage and the one story section of the structure collapsed. The one and a half section received extensive damage as well as two cars that were parked next to the garage, All of the residents safely escaped the flames and no other injuries were reported. The initial cause of the fire appears to be a car fire in the garage
